Lufthansa Cargo AG has environmental guidelines since September 2007. Our environmental guidelines are not only basic constituents but also the normative framework of our modern environmental management system and the driver for ongoing environment-relevant measures the Company takes. They encompass environmental values, strategic objectives and norms for company activities, to which, Lufthansa Cargo AG is committed to adhere in the medium and long term.

By utilising energy and raw materials in our business activities, we burden the environment with waste and emissions. In order to minimise those effects as much as possible, Lufthansa Cargo is firmly intent on complying with its environmental guidelines.

Protecting the environment, however, is not just a management responsibility. To achieve our environmental objectives, each and all of us must play a part and show initiative so that we progress day-in day-out, wherever we happen to be, towards our aims. Only in that way can we maintain our position among the world’s leading cargo carriers.

Environmental guidelines
Our commitment to protect the environment is an expression of our corporate responsibility. That is why environmental protection and the conscientious use of resources are among the foremost goals of our corporate policy. We want to satisfy the expectations of our employees, partners and customers with regard to safety, quality, economic efficiency, and environmental compatibility in equal measure.

Creating transparency
The Lufthansa Group's Guidelines on Environmental Protection are the basis of our behaviour. We are committed to an open information policy on environmental questions and to a constructive dialogue with public authorities, customers and the public. Our environmental management system helps us identify and evaluate how our activities affect the environment and how to specifically reduce those effects.
 
Increasing environmental efficiency
We avoid harmful effects to the environment such as emissions, noise, waste, and sewage wherever possible, and keep those effects to a minimum if they cannot be avoided. Ongoing improvement in operational processes and procedures helps us to work more efficiently while protecting natural resources. In particular, environmental protection calls for ideas and self-initiative from all the staff. In order to achieve our objectives, we depend upon responsible employees and promote their efforts to protect the environment.

Achieving sustainability
Monitoring the environmental impact resulting from company activities forms an indispensable part of our business decision-making processes. Where this is justifiable in economic and social terms, we utilize the best available technology, make use of innovative processes and optimize our infrastructure to improve our environmental performance in the long term. We support the development of such technology and research projects.
