Our environmental targets

The environmental targets, with which we strive to consistently improve our environmental performance, are high on the agenda of our environmental management system. They focus on the principal environmental impacts of aviation and encompass virtually all our business areas. They underscore our quality standards.

Lufthansa Cargo not only talks about environmental protection, it defines targets, implements concrete measures for the purpose of reducing our impact on the environment and records the results

We achieved, among others

  • the extension of the ISO 14001 certification to the cargo station Leipzig
  • the integration of environmental protection into staff training
  • the establishment of an innovation award to employees, customer and researchers for more climate-friendly aviation
  • the hosting of the first Cargo Climate Care Conference
  • the reduction of specific energy consumption at the Frankfurt base through the implementation of modern lightening systems
  • the elimination of Euro-Class 0 – 3 trucks from trucking services operated for Lufthansa Cargo
  • the reduction of fuel consumption and therefore the reduction of emissions through successful test series of lightweight container

We intend, among others,
  • to reduce our specific CO2 emissions by 25 percent by 2020
  • to organise workshops with customers and establish environmental partnerships
  • to further the know-how and commitment of the staff in respect of environmental and climate protection issues through targeted communications
  • to support the group target „blending of biofuels up to 10% until 2020“ when technically and operationally feasible
  • to intensify the cooperation with research facilities
